In 2006, Mrs. Payne graduated from the University of Central Florida with honors. During the 2005-2006 school year, she served as a student teacher at Dover Shores Elementary in Orlando, Florida, before officially launching her career during the 2006-2007 school year.
She spent her first three years teaching math, social studies, and science within the Rome City School System. For the 2009-2010 school year, Mrs. Payne moved to Villa Rica and began teaching 6th-grade math at Villa Rica Middle School. She remains at VRMS today, where she has since transitioned to teaching 6th-grade science
